Emergency Planning

The Town of Kipling has an Emergency Bylaw, which provides for the establishment, administration and operation of an Emergency Response and Recovery Plan. The Emergency Plan is a joint plan with the Rural Municipality of Kingsley #124 and Rural Municipality of Hazelwood #94.

The Emergency Measures Co-ordinator is jointly appointed by the Town and two Rural Municipalities.

Everyone is encouraged to make their own personal emergency preparedness plans. Being prepared to be on your own without help for 72 hours or more, at home, in your car, or at work, will give you peace of mind knowing that you and your family are prepared.

Some basic items to include in an emergency kit are:

– Drinking water (minimum of 4 litres of water per person per day)

– Food – (minimum three day supply)

– Clothing/Shelter

– First Aid Supplies

– Blankets

– Out of Town emergency contact

– Personal items, ie: medicine, baby supplies

– Pet food / supplies

– Battery powered radio

For further information on a 72 Hour Emergency Kit and preparing for emergencies, visit the following link:

In the event of an emergency or disaster, reception centers will be set up for registration and inquiry. The Community Centre at 301 6th Avenue has been designated as the Towns reception and warm up center, however depending on the type of emergency it may need to be moved.

TOWN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

The Town uses a Town Wide Communication Service called Voyent Alert! for Emergency and Informational Purposes.  Voyent Alert! is a multi-purpose communication system used to inform residents, businesses, and visitors of:

  • Emergency Alerts
  • Advisories – Water, Cancelled Garbage Pick Up etc.
  • Service Alerts – Main Flushing, Fall Compost Pick Up, Sweeping etc.

If you are an existing resident who has already provided us with your telephone number you will continue to receive alerts by phone.

However, Voyent Alert! is also an app based system. Registration can be done by downloading and installing the Voyent Alert! app from the Apple or Google Play app stores.

Alternatively you can register online to receive email or text based alerts at voyent-alert.com/ca/trial-registration/

Simply enter a postal code associated with the Town and follow the instructions on screen.

Voyent Alert! offers the ability to track multiple locations, personalised communications for example such as the distance, and direction from an incident, and the ability to only track notifications relevant to you. for example if we are advising of a garbage pick up problem on one side of the Town and it doesn’t impact you or your tracked locations you won’t get an alert.

Registration is totally anonymous, and no information, volunteered or derives is shared or used for marketing or data harvesting purposes. Locational information from your tracked locations is only used to determine its proximity to an alert event and to provide critical context within the communications such as distance and direction.

Leaving is easy: Both mobile applications and web-based accounts provide access to an unsubscibe feature accessed via the menu icon on the top right of the screen/page. Simply click the “Unsubscribe” button to stop receiving all notifications.

To stop receiving calls on a land line, unsubscribe online ,or call the Town Office at 306 736 2515.
